Pack my camera, film to spare I've dreamt of pristine mountain air I packed my courage, I packed my gun I swear to God I'm not on the run My reflection doesn't end In the photographs of the water's edge My rescue is imminent But time is losing all its sense The cold wind does get in my bones It steals my breath as I think of home Through greying skies comes gold sunshine The glimmer off that gun shell blinds me Send my love to anyone who reads My final words and apologies As winter and the trees close in on me

Lonely loon yelling at the moon, nobody sings that deep The whippoorwill sounds so shrill when you're laying down to sleep Deep in the thickets are the metronome crickets Heart beats along with their cheeps The bullfrog groans so monotone It's nice with the rain in the leaves Highland soothes, kicking the blues outta' me Coyote calls as darkness falls, a beaver makes a lodge in the deep The bugs die down and we're left with the sound of the crackle of fire in the breeze Down at the lake where the boat makes a wake, a bear stands alone in the trees I think to myself, that the key to good health, is drifting along in the leaves Highland soothes, kicking the blues outta' me You don't spend much money, and things aren't so funny, when there's that many stars past the trees And the air turns cool like the old bar stool that's a long ways away from my feet Highland soothes, kicking the blues outta' me When you used to be afraid of the great landscapes of old man mythologies It's printed in books and you get dirty looks when you say that you've never seen those trees Highland soothes, kicking the blues outta' me
